The Blue Devils (18-5) moved into sole possession of first place in the Vermilion Valley Conference by upending the other unbeaten league entry, Westville, 51-41, behind a combined 30 points inside from Wilde Garowski and Austin Reinken.


Saturday's highlights: Shiloh claims LOVC title

■ Shiloh 57, Heritage 35.
The Raiders outscored Heritage 42-20 in the second half to run away with the tournament title. Andrew Donithan scored 19 of his game-high 29 points in the second half to help Shiloh break open a game that was tied 15-15 at halftime. John Taylor paced the Hawks with 14 points.

Teams of the Week: M-S wrestling in spotlight

In the year coach Rob Ledin won his 100th career match at M-S and the school competed in its 1,000th dual meet in history, the Bulldogs (21-8) returned to the 20-win mark for the first time in 11 years and concluded a 6-0 run past Corn Belt Conference teams to win the undisputed league championship.


Athletes of the Week: Smith and Wallick

Shelby Smith, Shiloh, Senior, Basketball
Recently: Led Shiloh in scoring in all three games of the Little Okaw Valley Conference Tournament, leading the Raiders to a second consecutive title. The title-game win was against an opponent (Tri-County) Shiloh had previously lost to by 17 points.

In wrestling, it is expected that the lower weight classes will be filled by ninth-graders. However, not all of the area’s elite freshmen this year are competing at 106 or 113 pounds. Here are five who have excelled throughout the season:

Arcola 54, Atwood-Hammond 41. Nick Hudson scored half of his 20 points in the first quarter to propel the Purple Riders to a win. Andy Webb and Jordan Feagin each scored 10 points for the Rajahs.

Friday's prep highlights: Chargers drop first Big 12 game

In boys’ basketball

Normal Community 59, Centennial 43. The visiting Chargers were outscored 45-29 over the final three quarters and absorbed their first Big 12 Conference loss of the season. Nine Centennial players scored, but none reached double figures. Phillip Wright led the Chargers with eight points.
