Wednesday's highlights: Urbana senior wrestlers honored

In wrestling
At Urbana. Urbana seniors Sam Walson (126 pounds) and Cameron Mammen (170) won by pinfall against Normal West opponents in their final home matches.

Walson finished his match in four minutes, and Mammen pinned his opponent in 1:23. The Wildcats won the dual match 54-20.

Tuesday's prep highlights: Plecki, Koerner spark Sabers

Bismarck-Henning 58, Armstrong-Potomac 28. Austin Toler scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half to propel the Blue Devils to a 35-9 lead. Wilde Garowski added 13 points for B-H. Wade Rogers paced A-P with 12 points.

Panthers (9-1) had individuals finish among the top four in eight of the 14 weight classes while pinning down team honors in the 47th George Girardi Invitational. Alex Matlock (106), Tate Ruffner (113) and Tyler Walsh (120) won titles. Peyton Roop was second at 132, and Ty Sandy won at 220.

Cameron Mammen’s final Urbana Invitational was one to remember. The Tigers senior pinned each of his three opponents, two in less than a minute, to win the 195-pound class and earn the Most Outstanding Wrestler award for the upper-weight divisions.

Thursday's prep highlights: Zirkle pours in 33 for Raiders

Iroquois West 63, Armstrong-Potomac 45. Keaton Zirkle hit four three-pointers en route to 33 points and grabbed 14 boards to lead the host Raiders, who outrebounded A-P 43-24. The Trojans, who played to a first-half tie at 26 apiece, were led by Dentler Loschen (17 points) and Wade Rogers (15).

In boys’ basketball

St. Thomas More 55, PBL 46. Storm Joop and Joshua Koerner combined for 13 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Sabers to a home win. STM outscored the Panthers 17-10 in the final period. Joop finished with 19 points, and Jeremy Walder led the Panthers with 12 points.

Bulletin Board: Chrisman to honor Beals

CHRISMAN — One of the state’s winningest boys’ basketball coaches will have a court named in his honor Monday.

Chrisman will dedicate its court for Roger Beals, who won 541 games at the school, prior to Monday’s home varsity game against Tri-County, at about 7 p.m. Beals retired in 1992 with 638 career wins, a total that still ranks 27th on the all-time IHSA list.

The Chargers (13-4) ran their Big 12 record to 8-0 thanks to a double-overtime win at Bloomington in a game where 37 of their season-high 90 points came from free throws. Michael Finke made 12 free throws, and Dustin Walls hit eight.
