The Big 12 is getting smaller.
Decatur schools Eisenhower and MacArthur on Wednesday accepted invitations to join what will become a 10-member Central State Eight starting in the 2014-15 school year.
The decision did not catch other Big 12 administrators off guard.
Centennial senior LUKE VAUGHN has broken records nearly every time he has tossed a shot put during the indoor track and field season.
He most likely won’t do so anytime soon after he broke his right hand.
Vaughn, who signed with Mississippi in February, suffered the injury Saturday during a meet at Plainfield North. He was running in a sprint event and placed second.
Besides watching to see if coach Robert Smith’s program can win its fourth consecutive Class 4A state title and sixth in eight years, there might be a Donte Ingram sighting. The former Danville High athlete is one of the Wolverines’ reserves.

DANVILLE GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
For the ninth time in the past 12 years, the Vikings captured the Big 12 Conference indoor league crown. Alexus Jimson-Miller won three events, sprinter Emone Davis was victorious and the 800-meter relay was triumphant. Davis was joined on that foursome by Ambrosia Williams, Jorriel Stewart and Arionna Graham.

Recently: Mississippi recruit set another school record in the shot put at Plainfield North with a toss of 59 feet, 71/2 inches.
In his words: “It’s just been lots of work in the offseason and busting my butt in the weightroom.”
My favorite athlete is ... Lindsay Rogan.
Hugh Thornton arrived at Illinois a three-star recruit from Oberlin (Ohio) High School.
Michael Buchanan arrived with a bit more hype as a four-star high school prospect coming out of Homewood-Flossmoor (Ill.) High School.
The two signees from the Class of 2009 could hear their names called during the 2013 NFL Draft, which takes place April 25-27.
