Fingerstyle guitarist to give free workshop on Tuesday
CHAMPAIGN – Fingerstyle-guitar master Doyle Dykes will give a fingerstyle guitar workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday at C.V. Lloyde Music Center, 102 S. Neil St., C.
Admission is free, but reservations are recommended by calling 352-7031 or visiting the Music Center. The workshop is aimed at guitarists of all skill levels.
The Tennessee-based Dykes, a frequent guest of the Grand Ole Opry, has performed with Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Duane Eddy, Peter Frampton, John Fogerty and Vince Gill, among others.
After Atkins died in 2000, the Grand Ole Opry asked Dykes to close a tribute show to the country music and guitar legend. Atkins had called Dykes an "amazing finger picker" and had admired Dykes both as a musician and person.
Dykes has performed at numerous venues including in the United Kingdom, where he has been interviewed by the BBC and was given a brick in the Wall of Fame at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
Dykes has been a Taylor Guitars clinician since 1995, having led hundreds of Taylor workshops in the United States, Canada and overseas. In 2000, Taylor introduced the Doyle Dykes Signature Model guitar, which Dykes helped design.
