Operation Christmas Child Collection Week
Join Central Illinois volunteers impacting the lives of those in need around the world NOW by preparing for the collection of 12,000 gift-filled shoeboxes - Central Illinois' target contribtuion to the world's largest Christmas project of its kind, Operation Christmas Child.
On Nov 17-24, collection sites in Central Illinois will be bustling with activities. Thousands of the boxes packed full of goodies for needy kids oversees are dropped off by local individuals and families. Then, using whatever means necessary trucks, trains, boats, bikes and elephants - the shoe box gifts will be hand-delivered to hurting children in 100 countries around the world.
In Champaign, the main drop off location is Meadowbrook Communty Church at 1902 S. Duncan Road, Champaign, IL 217-351-3019. For information on your closest collection site and what to put in a shoebox check out www.Samaritanspurse.org.
You can also build a shoebox through an online tool offering a personalized and convenient way to send a gift to a child in one of the hardest-to-reach countries. Using special tracking technology, participants can follow their boxes online and discover the country to which their gifts will be delivered to children in need. To register a shoebox gift, use the online donation form at samaritanspuse.org.
