What are your thoughts on the Danville Teacher's Strike?
Does their responsibility lie more with the education of students or being given a contract which pleases them?
Students have now begun their own protest and want to go back to school.
Unless I've misunderstood the ~$10,000 difference in pay between teachers in Danville and other areas schools, if the striking workers were truly concerned with the plight of TAs, office staff, and others they feel are paid inequitably by their employer, they should offer to reduce their salaries to be more in line with the area and have that money go towards raises for their coworkers. As a product of a Danville education, I can say that neither the cost of living or the quality of education justify such a salary.
What anyone thinks in Champaign County is irrelevant.
The teachers' responsibility is to get a contract which they consider fair. In most teacher strikes in small to mid-size communities, the students soon organize protests to appeal for the end of the strike
