Senator John Ensign

On April 27 recently the News Gazette ran an editorial titled: Senator made right choice A member of the U.S. Senate has set a good example by acknowledging he set a bad example

http://www.news-gazette.com/opinions/editorials/2011-04-27/senator-made-right-choice.html

The NG editorial portrayed John Ensign's disgraceful resignation from the US Senate (he was facing certain expulsion) as a moral high ground compared with Charlie Rangels pathetic behavior when he was investigated.

Now the details have emerged about Ensign's sordid affair, cover up, and criminal activity.  The Senate Ethics Committee has refered the case to the Justice Department with both the top Republican and Democrat on the committee agreeing that Ensign had broken various laws.

Only a blindly partisan individual could find any redeeming moral high ground in the behavior of Senator Ensign.  The man cheated on his wife with the wife of his best and trusted friend.  This evangelical hypocrite was confronted and would not stop.  Finally when the cuckold husband found out Senator Ensign tried to pay him off and committed crimes.  He never came forward on his own to admit mistakes.  He was caught, he covered up, he obstructed justice.

And the News Gazette editorial holds him up as an example to be followed.

Ok my original comment to

Ok my original comment to this was as follows:
I found this editorial very disappointing. "Ensign is making his early exit to escape a pending ethics investigation by the Senate. If he goes, the ethics probe grinds to a halt, and Ensign decided that leaving is the better option. That's another good decision." Excuse me? It was obvious from the beginning that his "throwing in the towel" was a pathetic attempt at trying to save his own butt*. His behavior through this has been disgusting from the start and it's even more obvious with the recent developments... As well with the behaviors of others that have been brought to light.
(originally had a link to a video clip from another news site on the recent developments of Ensign)

*Now this is what I find interesting. I had originally used another word in place of butt, starts with an a, figure it out. I came back a day later to find my comment deleted. Now considering that word is used consistently throughout the forum, blogs, etc on this site, along with other more dubious language popping up here and there, I think I could safely chalk it up to the news video I posted. Ergo I reposted my original statement along with me calling out the dubious deleting of my comment. Interesting, that comment got deleted as well and I received an email that it was because of "vulgarity". The only thing possibly, remotely linked to "vulgarity" is the "a" word (ok seriously?). Except that word can be found throughout the news gazette. Do a search yourself. So it can't just be because of vulgarity. Then what was the real motive to deleting? The bias is undeniable... Disappointment is mounting. I said in my second comment I lost some respect for it, now I have to say I have none.

You must be new to the NG my friend. My posts are frequently deleted, see my censorship forum topic, and even entire stories which are deemed "controversy generating or vulgarity potential high" comments are not allowed by anyone. Some NG editor responded with a lame explanation and a restating of their policy on this. He also stating that it was "very infrequent" which of course is ludicrous.

I am surprised that this post about the NG editorial on John Ensign hasn't been removed yet.

Well I'm here every now and

Well I'm here every now and then, so I can't say I have really had much exposure to the issues. But it is clear to me now. Inconsistency and hypocrisy within a news organization (especially when it comes to censorship) clearly spells out agenda.

Speaking of hypocrisy, Ensign is a good example of that. Back in October of 2009, when asked if he will resign, he said “No, definitely not." So months later, after a looming investigation that was mounting against him, he sets his resigniation the day before he would have to testify in front of the Senate Ethics Committee. He only resigned because he basically had no other choice, it was clear the results would have prompted him to resign, and he set that resignation to avoid testifying in an attempt to hush things up. I can't even fathom how someone could write "A member of the U.S. Senate has set a good example by acknowledging he set a bad example," or even call it "semi-gracefully." Even in his resignation he still denied any wrong doing when it came to ethics violations. He stated “While I stand behind my firm belief that I have not violated any law, rule, or standard of conduct of the Senate, and I have fought to prove this publicly, I will not continue to subject my family, my constituents, or the Senate to any further rounds of investigation, depositions, drawn out proceedings, or especially public hearings.” How is that even remotely admitting he set a bad example? The sheer idiocy of this editorial is unsurpassed... How it made it on the news gazette, well that's questionable.

John Ensign is a special kind

John Ensign is a special kind of hypocrite....a Pharisee. Remember Governor Mark Sanford? Both Ensign and Sanford are members of an evangelical christian group called "The Family" or "The Fellowship" These people were putting on a show of piety and righteousness in public, while in their private lives they were anything but. They kept a home in Washington on C. Street, kind of like a republican, evangelical fraternity, where they took mistresses and carried on adultery. Several other evangelical congressmen and senators are associated with this house.
