Weiner's "Treatment"

So now congressman Weiner has played the "I have a disease" card.  What new disease is that?  I guess he will do some sexual addiction therapy and convince himself that he is not a bad person, he is a sick person.

He will go to 12 step meetings I suppose, get placed on an antidepressant, just like alcoholics and all the other behavioral deviats.

And now that he is in some sort of rehab and is a patient, his privacy will be enforced and the news media won't have access to him.

But he remains a congressman.  The rest of us get fired when our behaviors deviate so significantly from the social norms.

I suppose his government health insurance will be paying for his "rehab", that means all those who pay their taxes.

But what about dishonesty.  Is that a disease also?  All these 12 step treatments depend on "rigorous self honesty".  Maybe that is why they are so ineffective at "curing" the purported "diseases" which they address.

Dishonesty is not a disease.  It is moral failure and rehab doesn't fix that.  But, oh well, like the AA book says on how it works: "Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program, usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves. There are such unfortunates. They are not at fault; they seem to have been born that way. They are naturally incapable of grasping and developing a manner of living which demands rigorous honesty. Their chances are less than average.

So I have a disease, and if I don't recover because of dishonesty, it still isn't my fault.  I was born that way and not at fault.

No wonder 12 step programs are so ineffective.

Also, related to Weiner...I

Also, related to Weiner...I know it's already old news now (imagine that, a sex scandal flaming out quickly!), but it's getting ridiculous how for so many public figures, entering rehab has become the new get-out-of-jail-free card for any unsavory behavior. No personal accountability required, it seems.

Public figures wouldn't have

Public figures wouldn't have to go through the absurd to explain something in their private life if we didn't persecute them in the first place. The masses won't be happy with an apology, they want blood for the sake of blood. And these public figures have to go to the extreme to appease them and show they are "atoning" and trying to change their ways.... Even though it is none of our business.

On another note Weiner said he would "seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person." This is obviously his "atonement" that is needed to satisfy the blood thirsty public, but I would hardly say it is claiming a disease or going to "rehab."
How he decides to take responsibility of his missteps in his own marriage is of no relevance.

We need to stop sensationalizing politicians private lives. As long as it does not involve illegal behavior, policy violations, or it does not go against the issues and policies the person stands on (such as family values)... It's really none of our business. Sex scandals have been going on in politics since the start of our country.

Once again a lovely and

Once again a lovely and planned diversion for the Idol Loving people of America, a lurid tale of sex, lies and videotape, smoke and mirrors for the easily deceived so they wouldn’t notice war No4 being started in Yemen in the name of Imperial Domination.

Of course Weiner is a prime example of those who wear The Mask of Sanity, people devoid of any ability to empathize, power loving creatures condemned to forever trying to “feel” anything, soulless men unable to be a whole person because of their psychopathic condition.

Successful Murders, Politician and Businessmen, all share in this brotherhood, because what else is there at the end of the day. It is what gives them power, since all that they do never troubles what we call a conscience.

If there was ever a single source of the worlds pain, it is that we allow these kinds of Psychopaths to rule over us.

Interesting post, I myself

Interesting post, I myself just did some reading the other day about the prevalence of psychopaths in positions of power (sorry about the alliteration overload, and maybe we should clarify...the literal, clinical definition of psychopath instead of the misunderstood understanding of the word that a lot of us have). It is certainly troubling to think about, but I guess maybe we deserve the government we get if we don't make the effort to try and see through their deception.

On another note, I am curious about one point you made...how are we in any way involved with what's going in Yemen?
