African Americans Leave MLB!

I thought of this sleepy forum now. I was reminded of the non-issue of "sexism: not enough female jazz players"..You can review it here, I'm sure.

 The 1st topic on WDWS AM "Penny" talk is the remarkable stat that blacks in MLB indicates they have gone from 59% of the player total in the 60s to only 9% today! NO one, so far, has claimed any sort of racism, interestingly enough.

The speculation is that basketball has drawn blacks away. Someone briefly mentioned a Michael Jordan influence. Someone said it is one of the more expensive sports to play as a kid. (hmmm, hockey and golf are, too) Someone mentioned youth baseball can be very boring, waiting forever to make a play, etc;

So, I shall toss this bottle out, and perhaps see if there are any remarks,,,,,if any,,,,if I am once again reminded of this forum at some unknown date. Till then, enjoy life. You're all still alive. The soldiers are not parked in tanks outside your door, aimed and ready to capture you or, preferably, blow you to smithereens.  But I won't attempt to 'prove' this is the 'truth' because I'd probably expostulate by saying that the media, at least some of the media, would Shirley let us know! But I won't dare say such a thing! That could open the Buzz/Penn/etc; can of worms of how we sheeple do not know a dang thing!!!!! (pardon my epithet, but, even sheeple have 1st ammendment rights)

Say, how 'bout them Cubbies! 'u'

I believe that statistic is

I believe that statistic is correct.  It certainly seems lower than 10 percent.  In fact, I just checked and there is currently only one African American on the rosters of the Cubs and White Sox combined (Marlon Byrd).  There are also none on the Cardinals roster (Jon Jay is Hispanic).

Baseball as a whole is now way less popular than football and basketball are, and not just in the black community.  It seems to be evolving into more of a niche sport, like NASCAR or the NHL.

Yes, and sheeple even have

Yes, and sheeple even have the right to misspell "amendment"!

I was merely relaying what I heard on the talk show, but, here is a link, of an almost endless list, which I've not even fully read:

As for the lack of girl jazz players: they simply are not interested that much in jazz and based on what I've seen, generally they are not interested in playing brass instruments either. No conspiracy in my opinion. 'u'

Can't really comment without

Can't really comment without verifying and analyzing the stats you put out.  What census is it based on?  Can you give us the original source of the data?

The only thing I could find myself was something put out by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports based on 2005 census data.  The data was bogus and the NCAS has a political agenda around racial issues.
