Chicago to play for free — and for Gifford

With five No. 1 albums, 21 Top 10 singles and a Grammy Award, Chicago packs rock & roll punch. Now the group is hoping to use its star power to help the victims of November’s tornadoes in Gifford and central Illinois.

Following the lead of REO Speedwagon, Chicago will perform at Bloomington’s U.S. Cellular Coliseum. However, the Jan. 29 concert is free thanks to sponsorship of Country Financial.

“The band wanted to do something special for the people of central Illinois who have suffered any type of hardship related to the tornadoes,” band manager Peter Schivarelli.

Ticket purchasing starts at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ticketmaster.com, the arena box office or by calling 309-434-2679. There is a limit of four tickets per transaction.
