Burned cable causes Champaign power outage

CHAMPAIGN - About 1,400 Ameren customers in Champaign were without electrical power Friday morning.

Ameren spokesman Leigh Morris said a cable burned out of the Oak Street substation, causing an outage that was first reported about 10:50 a.m.

Morris said the company is working on restoring power and hopes to have it back on by 1 p.m.
