5K gets new name, format

A longtime 5K relay has a new name and format this year, but it will still benefit local charities.

The Not Your Average Joe Race replaces the Twin City Twosome, organized for 21 years by Human Kinetics.

The new name honors the late Joe Seeley, a Human Kinetics employee and supporter of both running and soccer locally. He helped with the organization of both the Twin City Twosome and the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon. Mr. Seeley died last fall of leukemia.

The Not Your Average Joe race is May 11 and includes a 5K run (but not the twosome relay) and a 5-mile run. It benefits the Crisis Nursery, the TIMES Center and the Center for Women in Transition.

The Children's Advocacy Center will be part of race day with its Champions for Children Walk, which raises money for the services the center provides for victims of child abuse.
