Amie Burke of Fithian won the Illinois Agriculture Association Foundation General Scholarship, in the name of Fletcher Gourley, which has a $1,000 prize. Burke is the daughter of Debbie Burke and Virgil Burke, and will study agriculture communications and leadership at Illinois State University next year.


Tyler Suits of Rantoul won the James LaFrankie Scholarship Award from American Water. Nine students around the country won the scholarship, which is for children of full-time American Water employees who demonstrate an interested in working in a water-related industry.

Suits is the son of Barry Suits, vice president of operations in Belleville.


Alex Warner of Rantoul is a new junior member of the American Angus Association.

Junior members are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events. The American Angus Association is the largest beef breed association in the world, with nearly 25,000 active adult and junior members.
