Judah Christian High School senior Myles Roosevelt recently won the Erika Harold Scholarship, which is given each year to a senior headed to a four-year college.
Roosevelt will attend Olivet Nazarene University next year. He is the son of Tamara Roosevelt, Champaign, the grandson of Wayne and Mary Jane Roosevelt, Mahomet, and the great-grandson of Maxine Leffler, Mahomet.
Hannah Beeson, the daughter of Vic and Lori Beeson of Camargo, was a finalist for Illinois' 33rd annual Homecoming Queen Selection which was in May in Springfield.
She is the Villa Grove High School homecoming queen.
Kamryn Hinkle, a seventh-grader at Catlin Junior High, will attend the National Young Leaders State Conference in Chicago in July.
The conference will help young scholars take an "introspective and highly personalized assessment of their leadership skills and abilities," according to a news release.
The Champaign-Urbana Noon Kiwanis Club has awarded the 2013 Vic Shaul Scholarships to five local high school graduates. The winners are Megan Wolter, Centennial High School; Abigail Frings, University Laboratory High School; Sierra Zhane Lehcia Ewing, Judah Christian High School; Kseniya Chumachenko, Urbana High School; and Claire Tang, Central High School.
The $500 scholarships are awarded in memory of Verrollton C. Shaul, longtime Kiwanis leader and director of music for the Champaign school district.
