Centennial High School senior Julia Nikolaeva has been recognized as a national finalist in the EverFi Financial Literacy Month Student Blog Challenge. The contest received more than 1,400 submissions from students in 37 states. She has been awarded a $250 prize and a $500 prize has been awarded to Centennial for her accomplishment.

Lindsey Decker, Nick Decker and Matthew Decker, all of Philo, will exhibit Angus cattle at the 2013 National Junior Angus Show on July 5-11 at the American Royal Complex, Kansas City, Mo. All three Deckers are junior members of the American Angus Association. They are three of 741 young Angus breeders from 33 states who have entered a total of 1,599 head in the show.

Ariella Cohen of Savoy is one of 13 undergraduate students at the University of Illinois awarded scholarships from the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program.

The scholarships are for students studying abroad in summer 2013, fall 2013 or the 2013-14 academic year. The Gilman scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the regions of the world where they study.

Cohen, who is a junior in anthroplogy, is studying this summer with the Korea University Exchange Program, South Korea.
