DANVILLE — The Boys & Girls Club of Danville has launched its membership sign-up for the 2013-14 school year.
The school year session begins Aug. 26 and runs through May 30.
The membership fee is $75 per youth. Membership is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Located in the Mervis Unit at Garfield Park, the club provides youths ages 6 to 18 with a safe place to go after school until their parents get home from work; a variety of programs; and trained adult mentors and role models.
"We work with each member individually on whatever that day's specific educational need may be," Executive Director Rob Gifford said. "It is a very individually, one-on-one focused program."
Other core programs include character and leadership development, health and life skills, sports, fitness and recreation and arts. In addition, members are learn about respect for authority, respect for others, respect for self and respect for rules.
"Our hope is to inspire each member so that they will carry these positive attitudes out into our community and into their family lives, promoting a better world for all of us to live in," Gifford said.
The club features a newly updated computer lab, game room, kitchen and snack room, library, art room, a full-size climate-controlled gymnasium and a renovated teen lounge and teen computer area.
Members are issued an ID badge that they are required to use to sign in and sign out of the club. This helps leaders track attendance and promote safety.
