HOT LUNCH PROGRAM
Peace Meal Nutrition Program provides daily hot lunches at 11:30 a.m. for a small donation and a one-day advance reservation at various sites in Urbana, Champaign, Rantoul, Sidney, Mahomet and Homer.
The program is for people age 60 or older. For reservations or more information, call 800-543-1770.
Home-delivered meal clients will receive two meals every Thursday and will not have delivery of meals on Friday. Meals will not be served at the Peace Meal sites on Fridays to those clients who typically attend the congregate sites. Reservations for Monday will need to be made with the site by noon Thursday.
Monday: Sloppy Joe sandwich, ranch potato wedges, seasoned butter beans, bun, pineapple, butter or margarine (served with each meal), milk (served with each meal).
Tuesday: Turkey cutlet with gravy, mini potato bakers, mixed vegetables, bread, cranberry parfait.
Wednesday: Roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, corn with pimentos, bread, melon salad.
Thursday: Spaghetti with Italian meat sauce, seasoned green beans and black-eyed peas, bread, rosy applesauce.
Friday: No meals served. Two meals delivered Thursday.
Champaign-Urbana: Rides for grocery shopping in Champaign-Urbana city limits and rides for Champaign County residents to medical appointments can be arranged by contacting the Senior Resource Center of Family Service at 352-5100.
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District provides senior citizens with a special card for free bus transportation in Champaign-Urbana and half-price taxi service. Call MTD at 384-8188 for more information.
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a program of Family Service, offers retirees in Champaign, Douglas and Piatt counties the opportunity for meaningful service. For more opportunities, call RSVP at 359-6500.
Clerical services. The Family Service Senior Resource Center is in need of a regular volunteer to help with filing, organizing, and other light clerical work in the office at 405 S. State St., C. Work your choice of Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, for a full day or a half day. Please call Brandon at 359-6500 if you are interested in helping this organization to schedule an orientation.
Hospitality committee. The International Hospitality Committee at the University of Illinois is looking for more senior volunteer committee members.
