Habitat, homebuilders hold joint fundraiser

CHAMPAIGN — Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County and the Homebuilders Association of East Central Illinois are joining in a fundraiser that will be held in September.

The "Dare to Dream, Dream to Build" charity event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 at the I-Hotel in Champaign and feature signature drinks, desserts, music, dancing, a live auction and chance to win a $10,000 cash prize.

There will be 400 tickets available at $100 each, and proceeds will be split between the two organizations.

Auction items available so far include two tickets to see The Eagles in Chicago with overnight accommodations, 20 tickets and a complimentary tailgate party to the Illinois-Michigan State football game Oct. 26, dinner for eight at the of home of Parkland College President Tom Ramage and an Abraham Lincoln weekend in Springfield that includes a framed picture from the movie "Lincoln" autographed by Daniel Day Lewis.

Other items lined up also a pre-game dinner for two at the Champaign Country Club with UI President Bob Easter and his wife, Cheryl, along with two Section A tickets and a parking pass to a Fighting Illini basketball game, a nine-drawer tool chest donated by Sears and a rare Cycle Genius Phoenix recumbent trike.

Terry Greene, executive officer of the Home Builders Association, said more auction items will be announced and additional business sponsors are being solicited.

All money raised will be used by the two organizations in the local community, Greene said. The home builders organization uses money it raises for scholarships, volunteer work and education, he said.

Habitat for Humanity will use its share of the money raised to support home building projects scheduled for next year, according to development director Kelly Hill.

To become a sponsor or buy a ticket to the event, contact Greene at 202-8483 or send an email to hbaeci@gmail.com

Tickets can also be purchased through Hill at Habitat by calling 819-5115 or sending an email to development@cuhabitat.org.
