Lessons offered in Alexander Technique

URBANA — Teachers of the Alexander Technique will offer free introductory mini-lessons from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday in the foyer of Foellinger Great Hall at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

No appointment is necessary. The event will be staffed by local American Society for the Alexander Technique certified teachers and teacher-trainees as part of International Alexander Technique Week.

The Alexander Technique teaches people how to stop using unnecessary levels of muscular and mental tension in their everyday activities. It is an educational process rather than a relaxation technique or form of exercise.

Joan and Alex Murray of Urbana have trained people in the technique at their Alexander Technique Center in Urbana since 1977. More information is at http://www.amsatonline.org.
