Marching bands from Champaign Central, Monticello, Watseka, Paris earn awards

CHAMPAIGN — Bands from Champaign Central, Monticello, Watseka and Paris were among the groups that earned awards on Saturday at the Illini Marching Band Championships at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois.
 


Marching bands from schools with smaller enrollments performed on Saturday
afternoon.


The Monticello High School Marching Band captured third place in Class
2A, a division for schools with enrollments between 351 and 800.
 


Paris Cooperative High School also won an award in Class 2A for best visual
presentation.
 


In Class 1A, Watseka High School not only won third place but also captured the
award for best visual presentation.
 


The Class 1A competition included schools with enrollments of 350 or less.
Bands from Champaign Central and Danville were among the schools with larger
enrollments that took park in the evening competition.
 


Champaign Central finished in third place in Class 4A, which features schools with
enrollments between 1,001 and 1,600 students.
 


The annual marching band event in Champaign provides high school musicians with
competition, feedback and the experience of performing at the home stadium of the
Fighting Illini.


Both the small school and large school competitions concluded with performances by the Marching Illini.
