Events

First-year anniversary. Continues 7 p.m. today, 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Greater New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 Sheppard Place, Rantoul. Speakers: The Rev. 142nd anniversary. Sunday, Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church, 414 Poland Road, Danville. The church will celebrate with a Harvest Homecoming program and carry-in meal. A musical program by former and present members at 10 a.m., followed by a "Famous Farmers Chapel" dinner at 11:47 a.m. Former and present members are encouraged to come. Celebration of birth of Baha'u llah'. 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Urbana Baha'i Center, 807 E. Green St. The Baha'i community will celebrate the birth of it's founder, with a chili cook-off challenge at 6 p.m., followed by cake and ice cream, and ending with devotional time. Baha'u llah' was born Nov. 12, 1817, in Persia. Visitors are welcome to join the Baha'is of Champaign for this joyous occasion. 355-6557.

50th Anniversary Celebration. 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 17, Bible Baptist Church, 4001 W. Kirby Ave., C. This special time is set aside to recognize 50 years of ministry in Champaign-Urbana, the surrounding areas, and the world through the dedication of missionaries we support. FallFUNd Raiser Festival. 5 p.m. Nov. 17, Dewey Community Church. Featuring Soul Purpose (Indiana), East Bend Bluegrass Group and Dewey Ladies Quartet. Fundraisers/bazaars/food

Annual bazaar. 5 to 7 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Arthur United Methodist Church, 128 E. Illinois St. Unique crafts with a spaghetti supper fundraiser in support of the church youth group, today. Holiday crafts, homemade cookies on the Cookie Walk, baked goods and candies in the Country Store, lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Benefit for Salt & Light Ministries. 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Wal-Mart, North Prospect Avenue, Champaign. Salt & Light Ministries will distribute 650 Thanksgiving Meal Baskets later this month. There are a few items outstanding that will complete each meal. Remaining items for each basket will cost approximately $7.70 per basket. Families of Midwest Believers Church, 1802 S. Duncan Road, C, will shop at Walmart and have a collection vehicle in front of the store to gather the items to be delivered to Salt and Light. The Drummer Boy Bazaar. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, gym, 1930 N. Bowman, Danville. Immanuel Lutheran Woman's Guild. Homemade crafts, baked goods and candies. Many great items in the bazaar. Luncheon, 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., includes homemade pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, chips, iced tea, coffee and homemade desserts; adults, $8; children under 12, $3. Express line for those on lunch hour.

Auction. 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16, First Christian Church of Monticello. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for bidder registration, concessions and silent bidding. The first of four live auctions begin at 6:30 p.m. More than 200 items will be sold. Proceeds used for a mission trip to Haiti on May 31-June 7, 2014. 762-3027.

Operation Christmas Child collections. Nov. 18-24 at six collection points in Bloomington, Champaign, Danville, Monticello, Rantoul and Rankin. Goal of collecting 11,000 shoeboxes packed full of toys, school supplies and hygiene items by local individuals, families and organizations for needy kids overseas. http://www.samaritanspurse.org/occ for specific locations, dates and times shoeboxes or donations for shoeboxes can be dropped off.

Music

High Cotton and Jake's Boys concert. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 17, Gibson City United Methodist Church, 206 E. 10th St. High Cotton, a bluegrass band from eastern Illinois, and Jake's Boys, a Southern gospel group from the Gibson City area. Prior to the concert, the junior high and senior high Sunday school classes are hosting a chili supper from 5 to 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. 784-5452.

Miscellaneous

Veterans Day service. 12:15 p.m. Monday, Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 102 N. State St., C. Selected Scripture readings, prayers and hymns will be about self-sacrifice and service. Handicapped-accessible entry is available from the church's parking lot off Park Street.
