Festival of Trees kicks off Friday

CHAMPAIGN — The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana will host its 18th annual Festival of Trees from Friday through Sunday at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1501 S. Neil St.

Hours will be noon to 5 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors age 65 and older and children age 4 through 12. Children under 3 are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Supporters of Festival of Trees provide trees, wreaths and gift baskets that are raffled or auctioned off during the weekend. A gallery of local vendors is available for those wishing to purchase holiday gifts.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Also, community performers will take the stage in the tree area:

— On Friday, the High School of St. Thomas More Madrigals perform at 1:30 p.m., and the Urbana Free Library children's storyteller will be available at 3:30.

— Saturday starts at 10:30 a.m. with the Central Illinois Children's Choir; followed at 1:30 p.m. by the Garden Hills Elementary Chorus; at 2, the Parkland Carolers; at 3:30, the Conservatory of Central Illinois; and at 4:30, the Edison Middle School Jazz Band.

— On Sunday, folks from the Community Center for the Arts perform at 1 p.m.
