Japan House, Haus + Home 'pop-up' bazaars planned

URBANA — Chances are that this holiday season you will hear about "pop-up" holiday bazaars or shops — temporary shops that pop up, generally selling handmade or artsy goods.

Japan House will have a Pop-up Holiday Bazaar this weekend, selling antique scrolls, strands of origami cranes, tea bowls, framed posters, fans, vases and other items.

All proceeds will go toward the Japan House Internship Program. The University of Illinois College of Fine & Applied Arts facility will accept cash, checks or charge cards.

The sale will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with a break for tea ceremonies (reservations required) at 2 and 3 p.m., and then more sales until 5.

The shop also will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Japan House, 2000 S. Lincoln Ave., U.

Another pop-up is Haus + Home, a Holiday Pop-Up Shop at Colab, 206 W. Main St., U. It offers goods from Christina Wondra's online vintage shop, Dear Home, and Norden, a German design studio by Anna Gutsch and Johann Rischau.

The Haus + Home Holiday Pop-Up Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Dec. 22 and sell modern and vintage furnishings, decor, and home accessories.
