On the town: Red Carpet Affair draws crowd

Nearly 140 people gathered at the I Hotel and Conference Center on Jan. 25 for the Champaign Urbana Theatre Company's (CUTC) Red Carpet Affair. The event recognizes outstanding artistic and production talent with the Ginny Awards and also recognizes dedicated volunteers and donors.

"Les Miserables" swept the Ginny Awards except for one which was won by Jace Jamison for his role in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

Justin Hamilton, actor and dance studio owner in Chicago and New York, formerly an actor for CUTC shared his passion for theater and expressed how his experiences with CUTC influenced his career choice. Timothy Renner, grad student at the University of Illinois, sang "One Day More" from "Les Miserables," the CUTC show in which he was Javert.

CUTC also recognizes volunteer efforts by giving "G" awards to those in the community who have helped the company in extraordinary ways.

Receiving those awards were Peggy and Carlo Anzelmo, Ray Essick, Suzanne Lee, Jerry Meyer, Kinzie Ferguson, Jenny Gleason, LaDonna Wilson, Dorothy Debolt, Cindi Norton Williams, Sandi Jones and Amy Stoch, Linda Hamilton and Steve and Kay Greene.

J. Barry Howell, Peter Schmit, Becky Von Holten of Midland States Bank and Todd Salen were thanked for their major financial donations to CUTC. Many others donate both time and money to the effort to keep CUTC a strong resource in the community.
