Bored? Board games event might be for you

URBANA — If you're bored Sunday, you might want to try out one of the exciting new board games created by local designers — like The Blob Attacks.

The Grand Exhibition of the Champaign-Urbana Design Organization will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Urbana Landmark Hotel, 210 S. Race St., U.

Gamers and designers from the area have created 13 new, challenging board games that the community is welcome to try out.

The organization will provide food and refreshments. The hotel's bar will also be open.

The exhibition will have a diverse range of games — from monster hunting to space-faring.

David Michael Moore, 30, is creator and team leader for The Blob Attacks. A local graphic designer, he runs a team of eight fabricators, designers and gamers working on a game based on the 1958 horror film that starred Steve McQueen.

"It's very loosely based on the movie," Moore said.

He said the team hopes the Blob game takes off commercially. The winner of Sunday's event gets a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for development.

Moore said he didn't play many board games before his recent interest.

"I wouldn't consider myself having a wide knowledge, but each member of the team brings a different approach to the effort," he said.
