Student show at Union on hiatus
URBANA — If you planned to take in Esteban Gast's Illini Showcase talk show today at the Illini Union, hold your horses.
The live show in late-night talk-show format is on hiatus.
"It's been postponed until further notice," said Juan Acevedo, programming coordinator at the Illini Union, adding that he was not speaking on behalf of the university.
He said the postponement had nothing to do with the content of the show, which began on Jan. 31 and was to have taken place at 5 p.m. every Friday in the Courtyard Cafe.
Acevedo said he, Gast and students instead will work on a "better proposal" for the event, which was taped by UI-7, the University of Illinois College of Media public-access channel, for broadcast later.
The News-Gazette on Thursday published an e3 cover story about Illini Showcase. Gast failed to inform The News-Gazette the show was put on "indefinite hiatus," as he described it on Facebook.
"It had nothing to do with the show, the staff, the guests or attendance," Gast wrote. "It's for reasons I'm literally too young to understand."
