Military news: Tuscola grad awarded medal

Corp. Jerry Wilke has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding service and performance of his duties while serving as Utilities Quality Control Non-Commissioned Officer, Combat Logistics, Battalion 13, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Wilke has been a member of the Marine Corps since March 2011 and is stationed at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif. Corp. Wilke has been meritoriously promoted three times.

He is the husband of Danielle Wilke, father of Avery Wilke and son of Leo and Diane Wilke, all of Tuscola.

He is a 2003 graduate of Tuscola High School.


Air Force Airman Matthew C. Benton graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Benton is the son of Terri and Dave Benton of Champaign.

He is a 2012 graduate of Centennial High School.
