Military news: Marine promoted; airman graduates basic

Champaign native Thomas Broadrick, U.S. Marine Corps, has been promoted to the rank of corporal at Cherry Point Air Station, N.C.

He recently deployed to Afghanistan with Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 28 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Broadrick was awarded a Certificate of Commendation and was named Marine of the Quarter.

He joined the Marine Corps in 2012. He is a graduate of Champaign Central High School and is the son of Michael and Debbie Broadrick.


Air Force Airman James R. Bray graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Tresalyn Bray of Chicago.

He is a 2012 graduate of Lincoln's Challenge Academy, Rantoul.
