UI softball youth clinic is sure to be a hit

Want to run a ballpark? Want to learn more about batting?

The University of Illinois Softball Program will present Kids Take Over The Ballpark & Youth Clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Eichelberger Field, 1201 W. Florida Ave., U.

The Big Ten Conference game against Iowa starts at 1 p.m. It will be broadcast on WDWS 1400-AM.

Kids will get to perform ballpark duties throughout the game.

Among the tasks they'll be able to learn are operating the scoreboard, playing music, announcing the game, running promotions and everything else that happens on a softball field.

After the game there will be a free youth clinic. It is open to young people 8th grade and younger.

The clinic attendees will take batting practice and learn other softball skills such as fielding.

Parking is available at Atkins Tennis Center or the northeast quadrant of State Farm Center Lot F23 (east of Eichelberger Field).
