Sign of spring: State stocking lakes with fish

More than 1,500 live 3- to 4-pound trout were delivered Tuesday to Lake of the Woods near Mahomet. The delivery is part of a stocking of sites across the state by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

By the numbers:

10: Days until the start of Illinois' spring trout fishing season. Anglers can cast their rods beginning at 5 a.m. on April 5.

46: Sites, including Lake of the Woods, stocked statewide as part of IDNR's Spring Catchable Trout Program. Others in the area: Clear Lake at Kickapoo State Park (Vermilion County) and Wyman Lake (Sullivan).

60,000: Rainbow trout stocked by the state in bodies of water where springtime fishing is allowed. The daily possession limit is five fish.
