Vermilion CASA event scheduled

DANVILLE — Vermilion Chevrolet-Buick-GMC will present CASA's third annual Night at the Races & Hometown Celebrity Auction later this month.

The event will be held on April 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 310 Bryan St., Danville. It is open to the public, and admission is $10 per person.

Happy hour will being at 6 p.m., and the first race will begin at 7 p.m.

Guests can enjoy snacks and cheer for their favorite horses while viewing videos of actual thoroughbred races.

Horses can be purchased for $10, and owners may name their horse.

Guests will have opportunities to win prizes, and two ticket holders will win a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1, 16 GB.

Horse "owners" will be eligible for a 50/50 drawing. Last year's winner took home $750.

Also, a drawing for a prize will be held after each race from among those who bet on the winning horse.

This year's auction packages include:

— Lunch and conversation or a day in Springfield with Democratic state Sen. Mike Frerichs.

— A ride-along with Danville police Commander Jane McFadden.

— A day with a firefighter.

— A U.S. flag that has flown at the Illinois Capitol from Republican state Rep. Chad Hays.

— A round of golf at the Danville Country Club with pro Neil Moore.

— A White Sox package including four tickets to a game and an autographed photo.

— Four tickets to this year's CASA Royal Ball.

Proceeds from the event will go to support CASA of Vermilion County. The organization recruits, trains and guide volunteers who advocate for the county's abused and neglected children.
