Flag Day program

The Alliance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a Flag Day Program at the Savoy United Methodist Church on June 11.

Participants in the program were Julie Woller, Kristen Petersen, LaVerne Iles, Virginia Brown, Carol Castellon, Georganne Marty, Ellen Stonner, Lucy Ann Bentley, Miriam Bauers, Jody Payne, Bette Berning, Marilyn Querry and Thirza Clements.

Award winners were: Stamp Award 8th grade — Clementine Craft, St. Malachy School (1st in state); Stamp Award 6th grade — Delaney Fullenkamp, St. Malachy School (1st in state); Poem Award 6th grade — Nathan Kelley, St. Malachy School (1st in state, 1st in North Central region); Poem Award 7th grade — Charlotte Thompson, St. Malachy School (1st in state, 1st in North Central Region); Poem Award 8th grade — Jana Ping, Unity Junior High (1st in state, 1st in North Central Region, 2nd in nation).

American History Essay Winners were: 6th Grade — Amelia Chase, St. Thomas School, Philo; 7th Grade — Evan LeFaivre, St. Thomas School, Philo; 8th grade — Ayrton Wrobel, St. Thomas School, Philo.

Lincoln Challenge graduates

More than 140 cadets graduated from the Rantoul-based Lincoln's ChalleNGe Academy at a ceremony at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield on June 10.

Graduates who were awarded scholarships: Noah Rogers ($1,000 from Health Net); Ariyan Harrington ($1,000 from Health Net); Janelle Collins ($1,000 from BBQT Scholarship); Tamia Creed and Teun Sims ($500 from the National Guard Youth Foundation); Stephanie Campos and Dean Funk ($500 from the DNDC Telephone).

Awarded Cadets: Noah Rogers (valedictorian, academic and leadership award); Ariyan Harrington (solitarian); and Jeremy Watson (Knock Out Drill Award).

Tribe state-ranked

The Champaign Tribe 10-and-under baseball team has vaulted to No. 9 in the latest USSSA rankings. At 22-10-1, the team has won four tournament this season: BIGS Grand Slam Classic tournament in St. Louis, the Indy Festival Super NIT, USSSA Reverse the Curse NIT in Elgin and The Diamond Dogs Classic in Mahomet.

Players include Chase Bartlett, Kendez Belk, Ashten Cafarelli, Lawrence Davis Jr., Brandon Harvey, Jimmy Henderson, Wilson Kirby, Jacob Long, Soren Long, Leo Maupin, TJ Pipkins, Jacobi Posey and Luke Teschke. The Tribe is managed by Chris Jordan and assisted by Eric Long, Kevin Burner and Doug Bartlett.
