Champaign County celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. 4 to 9 p.m. Jan. 18, The Vineyard Church, 1500 N. Lincoln Ave., U. The Countywide Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee will present three awards that uphold the ideals of King: Alissia Young will receive the Doris Hoskins Prestigious Community Service Award; First Followers will receive the James R. Burgess Jr. Award, Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award; and Seon Williams will be awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award. The public is invited to this free event, which includes a crudite reception at 4 p.m. and a program at 5 p.m. Keynote address by the Rev. 34th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service of Celebration. Jan. 20, Krannert Great Hall, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., U. The Community Choir will begin at 4 p.m., with the service starting at 5 p.m. The scholarships awarded uplift community youths through supporting their college education. Everyone is welcome. A free-will offering supports the scholarship fund.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee-Danville's celebration service. 11:30 a.m. Jan. 21, St. James United Methodist Church, 504 N. Vermilion St., Danville. The Most Rev. Ronald C. Henton, Bishop, Israel of God's Church, Sycamore, will be speaker and Danville MLK Mass Choir will perform. Free admission. Part of the committee's two-day celebration includes a motorcade/parade starting at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 to the church, and the MLK Scholarship Banquet at 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Days Hotel, 77 N. Community Ecumenical Memorial Pro-Life Prayer Vigil. 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 22, Three Hierarchs Greek Orthodox Church, 2010 Three Hierarchs Court, C. A prayer vigil to bring the community together to remember the lives lost to or forever impacted by abortion. Theme: "Every Life is God's Gift." Speaker: Laura Paulus, director of the Mary and Martha House, Chicago.
