The Peace Meal Nutrition Program provides daily hot lunches at 11:30 a.m. for a small donation and a one-day advance reservation at various sites in Urbana, Champaign, Rantoul, Sidney, Mahomet (home-delivered only) and Homer.

The program is for people age 60 or older. For reservations or more information, call 800-543-1770.

Reservations for Monday will need to be made with the site by noon Friday.

Monday: Beef stroganoff, Italian mixed vegetables, tomatoes and zucchini, bread, fruit juice, butter or margarine (served with each meal), milk (served with each meal).

Tuesday: Stuffed chicken breast, potato casserole, seasoned greens, dinner roll, spiced apple rings.

Wednesday: Pork tenderloin sandwich, baked beans, midori vegetables, bun, pears.Thursday: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, peas, bread, seasonal dessert.Friday: Orange chicken stir fry with brown rice and vegetables, baby carrots, dinner roll, fruit.


Champaign-Urbana: Rides for grocery shopping in Champaign-Urbana city limits and rides for Champaign County residents to medical appointments can be arranged by contacting the Senior Resource Center of Family Service at 217-352-5100.

The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District provides senior citizens with a special card for free bus transportation in Champaign-Urbana and half-price taxi service. Call MTD at 217-384-8188 for more information.

Urbana Free Library: Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to help with the library gardens. Help with the details of how the garden looks. Help with maintenance, the leaves, weeds and spent flowers need to be cleared and flowers to be watered regularly. Commitment of one hour, once per week. Contact Eleanore at 217-357-4057 or

Champaign Farmers' Market: Fresh produce is sold every Tuesday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. from May 14-Oct. 29. They are looking for volunteers who know a bit about vegetables, gardening and cooking and are able to socially engage the crowd. Call Rey Dalittl at 312-863-9960.

Courage Connection: They provide housing and supportive services to victims of domestic violence. Looking for volunteers for help with the Connections Resale Store, hotline advocates, education advocates, child care providers and receptionist/clerical work. They will train for any of the above.
