Resident asks Villa Grove to OK chickens

VILLA GROVE — Resident Terry Green has requested that the city council consider repealing or modifying the ordinance prohibiting farm animals within city limits.

Green specifically wants to raise chickens at his home. He said he has had no trouble gathering signatures for a petition in support of his proposal.

Atwood-Hammond merges with Arthur school district

ATWOOD — Residents of two school districts have voted to be combined into a single district.

Voters in the Atwood-Hammond school district voted 456 to 327 on Tuesday to be annexed to the Arthur school district, while voters in the Arthur school district voted 967 to 242 to approve the annexation.

TUSCOLA — Voters in Douglas County have approved a 1 percent sales tax to help school districts pay for building improvements and pay off construction debt.

County residents voted 2,346 to 1,755 on Tuesday to approve the sales tax for school facilities.

Vandals hit Tuscola cemetery twice in a week

TUSCOLA — Employees of Adams Memorials in Charleston worked on Monday to replace headstones at the Tuscola Township Cemetery, located at U.S. 45 and South Prairie Street, following the vandalism of 57 headstones over the past week.
