Update: Severe thunderstorm watch issued for the area

The National Weather Service has canceled a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Champaign County, eastern Douglas County, northern Edgar County and southern Vermilion County and another one for northeastern Champaign County.

Atwood-Hammond merges with Arthur school district

ATWOOD — Residents of two school districts have voted to be combined into a single district.

Voters in the Atwood-Hammond school district voted 456 to 327 on Tuesday to be annexed to the Arthur school district, while voters in the Arthur school district voted 967 to 242 to approve the annexation.

TUSCOLA — Voters in Douglas County have approved a 1 percent sales tax to help school districts pay for building improvements and pay off construction debt.

County residents voted 2,346 to 1,755 on Tuesday to approve the sales tax for school facilities.

Country music pickers to gather in Arthur

ARTHUR — The Old Timers Country Reunion will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Gunny Sack Event Center, 1061 Yoder Center.

The reunion brings together young and old country music pickers from central Illinois and from throughout the United States.

Douglas County voters to have say on sales tax

TUSCOLA — Shoppers could pay more for items they buy in Douglas County if a countywide ballot question is approved on April 9.

Voters are being asked to approve a 1 percent sales tax to help school districts pay for building improvements and pay off construction debt.

Arthur voters have choices for village president, board

ARTHUR — Arthur voters will have several choices to make when they head to the polls on April 9.

Incumbent Village President Matt Bernius is being challenged by former Douglas County Democratic Party Chairman Rob Fustin.

Meanwhile, five candidates are running for three seats on the Arthur village board.

Winter storm watch issued for East Central Illinois

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for all of East Central Illinois except Ford and Iroquois counties from late Saturday through Monday morning.

Ford and Iroquois counties are under a separate winter storm watch from Sunday morning through Monday morning.

Snow accumulation of five to eight inches and wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour are expected.
