I’m officially tapering now, in preparation for the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon. If you’re also in taper mode but still want to race, there are all kinds of 5Ks in the area this weekend. Here’s the list:

This is the weekend for the new Allerton Trails Half Marathon and 10K. If you’re running one of those races, I’ll see you at the finish line, where I’m volunteering. And if you’re looking for a race in the upcoming weekends, here are a few suggestions:

Winter storm watch issued for East Central Illinois

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for all of East Central Illinois except Ford and Iroquois counties from late Saturday through Monday morning.

Ford and Iroquois counties are under a separate winter storm watch from Sunday morning through Monday morning.

Snow accumulation of five to eight inches and wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour are expected.

Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for DeWitt and McLean Counties until noon Wednesday. The advisory calls for snow and freezing drizzle. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Total snow amounts are expected to be 4 to 5 inches by noon on Wednesday.

Man, about to be released from prison, charged with Champaign burglary

URBANA — A former Champaign man with a prior conviction for residential burglary has been charged with another residential burglary.

Javon I. Johnson, 20, whose last known local address was in the 1500 block of North Mattis Avenue but who now lists an address in Normal, was arraigned Thursday in connection with a burglary that happened almost two years ago.

Winter weather advisory issued for East Central Illinois

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Ford and Iroquois Counties from 6 p.m. Thursday to noon Friday.

In those areas, snow accumulation of three to five inches and ice accumulation of one-tenth of an inch are expected.  A period of heavy snow with rates of one inch per hour is expected late Thursday night.

Banks' settlement will mean $400,000 for UI clinic to help homeowners, tenants

CHAMPAIGN — A government settlement with five of the nation's largest banks over their role in the foreclosure crisis will fund a University of Illinois legal clinic that helps homeowners and tenants affected by foreclosure.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan visited the UI on Tuesday to announce a $403,271 grant to the College of Law's Community Preservation Clinic.
