Bement board hopefuls vying for its presidency

Bement will have a new village board president after Mollie Stevens opted not to run for another term April 9. Two current village board candidates — Patrick Tieman and Gerald Manint — will face each other in the election for village board president.

Report: 957,000 in Illinois eligible for health care credit

CHAMPAIGN — More than 957,000 people in Illinois will be eligible for tax credits to help pay for health coverage next year, according to a national health care consumers organization.

Bement schools chief takes new job

BEMENT — School Superintendent Daniel Brue has accepted the top post in the Meridian school district, a job he will take over on July 1.

Brue, who has been at the 322-student Bement district for four years, said he is looking forward to the challenge at Meridian, a school system with an enrollment of 1,021 located just south of Decatur.

Auditions set in Monticello for 'The Hallelujah Girls'

MONTICELLO — The Monticello Theatre Association will have open auditions for the comedy "The Hallelujah Girls" at 2 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Phoenix Theatre, 1406 N. Market St.

Unemployment rates in February were higher than in January — and also higher than a year earlier — in most East Central Illinois counties.

Champaign County's rate was 9.2 percent, up from 9 percent in January and 8.4 percent in February 2012, the Illinois Department of Employment Security reported Thursday.
