Summer registration open for Danville club

DANVILLE — Area youths can now register for the summer program session at the Boys & Girls Club of Danville. The session runs from June 10 through Aug. 16.

The fee is $175 per member and $125 for each additional member in the same family. Fees must be paid in full in order for members to have a guaranteed spot.

DSO teaming up with Cirque de la Symphonie

DANVILLE — The high-flying aerialists and acrobats of Cirque de la Symphonie will perform with the Danville Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at the David S. Palmer Arena, 100 W. Main St.

'Steel Magnolias' opens Friday at DHS

DANVILLE — The DHS Players will present their spring production, "Steel Magnolias," at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School, 202 E. Fairchild St.

The play, written by Robert Harling, depicts the story of the ladies in Truvy's small-town beauty parlor who love each other, even as they argue and gossip about practically everything.

Danville homicide under investigation

DANVILLE – Danville police are investigating an early morning shooting that left a 26-year-old Danville man dead.

Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said police were called to a home in the 1500 block of East Fairchild Street around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Catlin considers whether to stay in national lunch program

CATLIN — School officials are considering pulling the district out of the National School Lunch Program in order to gain more freedom in lunch offerings, and may vote on the idea next month.

Appellate Court comes to DACC

DANVILLE — While Danville Area Community College students think that Chuck Hantz is a top-notch political science instructor, they said his lecture on the judicial system earlier this week couldn't compete with the follow-up lesson.

That lesson came courtesy of the Fourth District Appellate Court, which held oral arguments on two cases at the community college on Wednesday morning.

Teacher named assistant principal at Danville

DANVILLE — A Danville High School teacher is heading to the assistant principal's office.

The Danville school board on Wednesday tapped Jacob Bretz to serve as an assistant principal and the ACE House administrator next year.
