SPRINGFIELD — Legalized same-sex marriage in Illinois is one step from reality, but it's a big step.

An Illinois House committee late Tuesday night narrowly approved a gay marriage bill with the help of a Chicago Democrat who said he'll likely vote against the measure on the House floor.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (AP) — The annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition is expanding its scope to seek entries from artists in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin as well as its home state.

For Vietnam veteran Tim Bassett, Tri-Valley Middle School's Veterans Day program in November was what he called "a very life-changing experience."

State police watching motorists on Super Bowl weekend

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois State Police are putting the motoring public on notice they will strictly enforce moving violations during this Super Bowl weekend.

The emphasis will be on what police call the "Fatal-4": driving under the influence, speeding, distracted driving and seat belts. Troopers issued more than 1,000 Fatal-4 citations during the 2012 Super Bowl weekend.
