Deanna Briscoe, Centennial High School, Marialicia Chavez(cq), Urbana High School, Taylor Dent, UHS, Dian Dwiyanti(cq), UHS, Rontez McClure(cq), Central High School, Arati Paudel(cq), Central High School, Carlos Rodriguez, UHS, Ashlee Smith, Central High School, Kourtni Turner, Centennial High School, and Reo Williams(cq), Centennial High School, were this years recipients of the 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships.

Stand Alone - Jamessa Reinhart(cq), 5, a Kindergarten student at Garden Hills Elementary School, moves to the music of The Sugar Prophets, at an all school assembly to kick off the 'Blues in the Schools' program on Friday Jan. 18, 2013. Beginning next week and running through March, students who enroll in the one-hour weekly program will learn about blues history and have the opportunity to choose to learn about blues harmonica or participate in drum instruction from local musicians. The Prairie Crossroads Blues Society is helping fund the program.
