David Lawrence, of Champaign, a volunteer at the Monticello Railway Museum, looks out from the museum's new signal tower, which is still under construction, in Monticello on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. The tower, which was framed late last year by Foster Construction Co. (Monticello), will feature three different, interlocking systems on display. A main machine, which comes from Gibson City's Illinois Central track and has a patent date of 1888, will be on display. A lever machine from the northwestern region of Illinois and a pistol grip, of Edgewood, IL, which works switches but functions with electric switch machines, will round out the displays. Most of the work at the tower is being done by the museum's volunteers.
