Board still accepting applications for seat vacated by Lanesskog

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school board is still taking applications through 4:30 p.m. July 5 for the empty seat it must fill by mid-July.

The seat was vacated by Stig Lanesskog, who resigned in June without explanation.

To be eligible, school board applicants must be at least 18 by the date they submit their applications, have lived within the school district for at least a year and be a registered voter.

Applications are available at the Mellon Administrative Center, 703 S. New St., C, or on the school district's website, http://www.champaignschools.org.

Applications, plus a professional resume, should be returned to the Mellon Center either in person or by mail, addressed to Ileana Saveley, the school board secretary. The center's ZIP code is 61820. Or applications can be emailed to Saveley at saveleil@ champaignschools.org.

The school board is expected to decide whether it needs to narrow the candidate pool by its July 8 meeting and to interview candidates July 15.

The seat needs to be filled by July 22, according to school board policy.
