Mediator to join talks for Danville bus driver contract

DANVILLE — First Student Inc. and its union in Danville will bring in a mediator next month to help settle a new contract for bus drivers and monitors.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 26's current three-year contract expired on Aug. 1. However, members have been working under an extension agreement, said Stephanie Creech, a spokeswoman for Cincinnati-based First Group America, First Student's parent company.

The company provides bus service to the Danville school district.

Creech added that no intent-to-strike vote has been taken by the union.

"Negotiations are still ongoing," said Creech, who declined to say what the sticking points are. And "students should anticipate being picked up as scheduled."

Union representatives could not be reached for comment on Thursday evening.
