Urbana says it will have hole filled before marathon

URBANA — Runners training for this weekend's Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon may have noticed a 60-foot-long hole on McHenry Street near Anderson Street on the eighth mile of the course.

While one lane of McHenry Street has been temporarily closed around the area, Urbana Public Works Operations Manager Rich Coyne said he expects the lane will reopen in time for this Saturday's race.

Coyne said weather had damaged the concrete at that location over time, so the city is in the process of pouring new concrete.

Coyne said the public works department originally planned on having the work completed last week, but the recent heavy rains have delayed the project.

"It will be filled with new concrete on Thursday afternoon, and the lane will be open on Friday," Coyne said.

Voila!! Just show up at the mayors office with a runners bib and number on and your craters get filled!! Meanwhile all those who have to drive over, through and around such are rebuffed. Wonderful approach to infrastructure maintenance, Laurel. Kudos.
