It's Your Business: Garcia's to return to Campustown in March
Garcia's Pizza-in-a-Pan, which closed its longtime and final Campustown store location last month, should have a new campus-area shop up and running in a few months.
Co-owner Ralph Senn says a new location (to be disclosed soon, he promises) has been lined up and will open in early March.
The shop at Second and Green streets was open for 32 years. Senn said he and Garcia's co-owner Joe Ream decided to close it when the lease was up because it was too large a space.
"It's basically 210 seats, and we had to heat and air-condition it, and we don't need that many seats right now," he said. "We're going to a more fitting location on campus."
Meanwhile, Garcia's other Champaign location at 313 N. Mattis Ave. remains open and is still offering delivery throughout Champaign-Urbana. Customers contacting the Campustown shop for delivery are being routed to the Mattis Avenue shop, Senn said.
Recycling ink
Rapid Refill Ink, an eco-friendly ink supplier for printers, copiers and fax machines, has a new franchised shop in Champaign at Robeson Plaza at Kirby and Mattis avenues.
Local franchise owner Randy Dahl said the shop stocks brands available in office supply stores along with recycled inkjet and laser toner cartridges at a discount under the Rapid Refill name.
The store also accepts used cartridges that would otherwise end up in a landfill, and it offers free pickup and delivery service for businesses.
An emphasis on recycling also factored into the construction of the store: Its walls are made of recycled wheat stock; the countertop is 100 percent compressed sunflower seeds; and the carpet is made out of recycled plastic milk jugs, according to Dahl.
The store is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The phone number is 352-9126.
The Champaign shop is one of more than 100 locations for Minneapolis-owned Rapid Refill Ink.
