It's Your Business: Delbert's also catering to women
Finding tailored business clothing for women is about to get a little easier.
Delbert's in downtown Arthur, which has focused on selling custom clothing for men for decades, has branched out and is now offering custom clothing for women.
That means, ladies, no more suffering through wearing tight shirts and loose skirts from off the rack.
Delbert's will measure and fit you with custom blouses, skirts, pants or jackets, said Linda Ingles, the ladies' custom clothing manager.
The store carries six different models of skirts, trousers and other items such as tailored woven vests and winter top coats. As for shirts, you can order long-sleeve, three-quarter sleeves and other styles.
The store carries H. Freeman, which offers jackets, trousers, skirts and vests; Corbin, which makes trousers or pants, and Individualized Shirts, which makes fitted shirts.
The store does not stock the actual garments, but has all the fabrics available in the store for women to review.
"It's made for you," Ingles said of the clothing.
If you're new to the concept of custom clothing, Delbert's will host a trunk show from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, when a representative from clothier H. Freeman will be there.
Appointments are not necessary, but recommended.
Ingles suggested women take along any item, such as a jacket or a pair of pants, that they find flattering and fits well. The staff will measure you and the garment to help you find the best fit, she said. You can also bring along any style or fabric you like.
Ingles can also schedule appointments to visit you at your workplace or at your home. She will travel outside the Arthur area.
Attention, teachers
In other Arthur-related news, the ABC Shop in Arthur is hosting a Teacher's Night and Day Out on Friday and Saturday.
The shop will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday (normal closing time is 5 p.m.) and from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Doughnuts, coffee and tea will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
"Some local teachers suggested we make a special evening out just for teachers, so we did," said ABC Shop owner Sheldon Raber. "But we'll be open to anyone who wants to come in."
The store has been sending mailings with special in-store discounts to area teachers, he said.
It sells educational and teacher supplies, jigsaw puzzles, board games, new and used books, and other small toys and gifts.
The shop is 1 mile north of downtown Arthur on the Arthur-Atwood Road and can be reached at 543-2655.
Art for sale
Artists will be selling jewelry, home accessories, clothing and other items this coming weekend in Urbana.
Jill Miller of Hooey Batiks is hosting a spring open house at her home, 905 S. Lynn St., U, from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Sunday.
Members of the Urbana's Wild Wimmin Craft Collective, Chicago's Weenerware and quilt artist Deborah Fell will be selling their stuff, which ranges from hand-made bottle cap jewelry to shrines to batiked clothing.
"It's really funky and not your typical art," Miller said.
They won't just be displaying their handiwork; items will be for sale, she said.

Mas Amigos
A belated mention that Mexican restaurant Mas Amigos has opened in the former Murphy's Deli space at 40 E. Springfield Ave., C.
Run by the same folks who operate the Mas Amigos store on North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana (Juan Reyna and Teo Padron), the restaurant specializes in a variety of Mexican food, including tortas, or sandwiches, said Ray Padron, brother and brother-in-law of the owners. They also sell beer and margaritas.
The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Turf supplies
Missouri-based Applied Turf Products plans to open a warehouse at 503 Mercury Drive, C, on Wednesday. The company sells supplies, such as erosion-control blankets and safety-perimeter fences, to landscapers, contractors, park districts and others.
Kevin Phipps will be the manager, and Shirley Baxter is the territory manager.
Payless open
Apologies to shoe shoppers and Payless Shoe Source. Last week in this column, we mentioned the Payless store at 2002 N. Prospect had closed for renovation.
By the time the column was published in the paper, the store had reopened after the renovations. It's now open 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
