Piper City's Farmers Grain merging with Ludlow Cooperative

A Piper City grain company has merged with Ludlow Cooperative.

Stockholders of Farmers Grain Co. in Piper City recently voted to approve the merger with Ludlow Cooperative Elevator.

Farmers Grain has four employees; they are not expected to be affected by the merger, said Bruce Bastert, general manager of Ludlow Co-op.

"Both Ludlow and Piper City are cooperatives with long histories of serving the grain-handling needs of their local farmer owners," Bastert said.

The merger will allow the grain company to sell and ship grain to different markets and have more marketing opportunities, he said.

Farmers Grain handles the merchandising, handling and storage of 1.7 million bushels of grain.

Ludlow Co-op has grain elevators in Buckley, Clarence, Danforth, Del Rey, Gilman, LaHogue, Loda, Ludlow, Paxton and Perdueville, with a combined total capacity of 15.8 million bushels. It also offers feed and seed sales as well as grain merchandising, handling and storage services. It employs 25 people.
