URBANA — Demolition work has started at the old site of the Windsor Swim Club, and preliminary work on a new development that will eventually become 48 condominiums will begin this fall.
Workers were tearing out the pool on Monday and developer Gary Olsen said all the buildings on the site will be leveled by Wednesday. This fall, crews are expected to begin installing the utilities on the site at 704 E. Windsor Rd., U., and the access drive that will connect the buildings.
The new development will be called Verdant Prairies Village and will be built as the units sell. Olsen said he thinks five years is a worst-case scenario for completion — he's hoping it will be closer to two.
"We can have it built very quickly if they all sold, but no one believes they're going to all be sold in one year," Olsen said.
Some of the materials left over from the old swim club will be recycled, and Olsen said anyone who has arranged to receive any salvaged items should do so by Wednesday. Even one of the old urinals sold, he said.
