New jobs

Hicks takes LeaderOne position. Mike Hicks of Champaign has been named a senior mortgage banker with LeaderOne Financial Corp.

He will serve the Champaign area from the LeaderOne Financial office in Springfield.

Schneider expands services. Dr. Susan Schneider, who has been performing breast reconstruction surgery at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, is expanding her services to include other cosmetic procedures at ACCESS, the Ambulatory Care Center for Excellence in Surgical Services.

Schneider, a board-certified plastic surgeon, has more than 20 years of experience in plastic surgery.

Kerrie Carson is director of the new outpatient surgery center at 800 N. Logan Ave., Danville.

Achievements

Karplus becomes columnist. Debra Karplus of Champaign has become a featured columnist with Grand magazine, a magazine for grandparents and their families.

An occupational therapist by profession, Karplus has been a freelance writer for several national magazines and online venues including The Dollar Stretcher.

Howell Paving gets award. Howell Paving of Mattoon has been given an award from the Associated General Contractors of Illinois for outstanding safety performance during the 2012 construction season.

The company received the award for having the best record in the 200,000 to 349,999 work hours category.

Peithmann receives designation. The Peithmann Law Office, Mahomet, announced that its principal attorney, William A. Peithmann, has been named by The Best Lawyers in America organization as 2013 Lawyer of the Year in the practice area of trusts and estates law for the Springfield/downstate Illinois area.

He was the only 2013 Illinois Lawyer of the Year honoree from outside Cook County. A complete list can be found at http://www.bestlawyers.com.

Peithmann was also the only downstate Illinois attorney to be included in both the "tax law" and "trust and estates law" sections of The Best Lawyers in America 2013.

The firm was also included in the 2013 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "Best Law Firms in America" with a "Tier 1" metropolitan rating in the area of trusts and estates law.

Heyl Royster given ranking. The Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen law firm, which has an office in Urbana, recently received a Tier 1 Best Law Firm ranking from U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers in the areas of appellate practice and commercial litigation.

The rankings are based on client and lawyer evaluations, peer review and information submitted by law firms.

Public health district recognized. The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District has received Champaign American Legion Post 24's January 2013 certificate of appreciation for proper display of the U.S. flag.

Officers elected. Steven Mullen has been elected president of the Champaign County Master Gardeners.

Other officers are Vice President Jana Waite, Secretary Juanita Gammon and Treasurer John Jones.

Phyllis Brussel, Laura Hartman and Aporn Surintramont received 20-year awards and Carlo Anzelmo, Carol McClure and Gloria Levitt received 15-year awards.

Tricia Locke of Parkland College, a certified floral designer, presented a program on "Floral Design Inside and Out" at the group's annual meeting.
